Some of the top cyclists in the world will be descending on the UAE at the end of the month, but budding peddlers can show off their skills beforehand in the Mini Dubai Tour.

Organised by the Dubai Sports Council and sponsored by the Commercial Bank of Dubai, the initiative is set to challenge the best amateur cyclists in Dubai in a fun and competitive environment. The event gets under way on Wednesday, January 25, before continuing on the 26 and 28, preceding the Dubai Tour from January 31 to February 4.

However, it’s imperative those interested register for free at www.premieronline.com, immediately as the deadline ends on Sunday and prospective participants will be unable to do so on the day of the race.

There is plenty of incentive, though, with last year’s winners taking home up to Dh50,000 worth in prizes. The top three athletes in each category will be given trophies, prizes and certificates while the top three schools in each category will receive cups, prizes and certificates.

The competition, now in its third iteration, is open to boys and girls under-17 and under-14 from Dubai public and private schools for the first and second days while the third day is reserved for the general public, men and women aged 18 and over.

In the U14 and U17 categories each school is allowed to participate with eight students with the distances varying from 9km all the way up to 36km. The event will take place on the Nad Al Sheba Cycle Park at Mohamed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum City.

Take a tour: Precede the Dubai Tour, the event is a perfect appetizer for cyclists.

Once a camel racing track, the family-friendly cycle park has been transformed into the go-to destination for cyclists. The facility has everything you need with the restrooms and changing rooms equipped with showers and lockers.

There are few better backdrops to take in a cycle ride within a competitive and fun atmosphere with the skyline of Downtown Dubai hugging the horizon. It is recommended participants arrive at the venue for 08:30 as the registration process will be closed 30 minutes before the start of the race.

In terms of equipment, bikes and helmets will be provided, although you can bring your own, too, and there is also one light meal lunch box which will be provided by the organising committee. So get on your bike and register now for the Mini Dubai Tour.
