Entry numbers of this Friday’s event at Mamzar Beach Tracks have been encouraging but with registration closing at midnight tonight, there’s still time to join them. By walking a total of 3km, it’s a chance for people of all abilities to get together as the UAE celebrates its 45th anniversary.

“The reason we are hosting this Solidarity Walk for the first time is that we want to bring the community together and show that we all have the same interest and love for the UAE,” said Meher Un Nissa, event director of Team Sports UAE, which is organising the walk.

“The UAE is now one of the most multi-cultural countries in the world with many nationalities working, studying and living in different cities. It’s a fantastic country and now it’s our responsibility to express our thanks.”

With the walk beginning at 08:00, Un Nissa insists it’s the perfect way to start the day with your family and friends.

“The day falls on a Friday so there’s no excuse not to join,” she said.

“A lot of people will be off from work so it’s a great way to get your friends and family together and mark the occasion of UAE National Day in style.
