Zayed Sports City will turn pink later this month as thousands take to the track in aid of Breast Cancer Awareness.

Entry numbers have been very encouraging for the Zayed Sports City Pink 5 and 10k Run on Friday October 14, but you can still join them ahead of next Sunday’s deadline.

Sponsored by Abu Dhabi Commercial Bank (ADCB) and Daman’s ActiveLife, and organised by Gulf Multi Sport and Abu Dhabi Striders, it has gone from strength and strength and is now in its fourth edition.

This year will be no different and like always, participants are being encouraged to dress up in pink with all entry fees being donated to Breast Cancer Awareness.

Whether you’re an experienced athlete or beginner, Steve Watson, managing partner of Gulf Multi Sport, insists it will be a memorable occasion.

“This is a very special race on the calendar as we know how important the cause is for those taking part,” he said. “Many of those running will have someone close to them who has been affected directly or indirectly by cancer.

“The event is for all ages and fitness levels and encourages runners to achieve their ambition whether that be simply completing the course or setting a personal best.”

Among those who have signed up is Abdulrahman Alhosani, who became the first Emirati to qualify for next year’s Ironman 70.3 World Championships in Chattanooga, USA.

The 31-year-old will take the track with his family and has urged others to follow his lead.

Entry fees for the run will be donated to Breast Cancer Awareness.

“This event is for a great cause and is recognised all around the region, with some of my friends on the Kuwait national team planning to come and take part at Zayed Sports City,” he said. “This year I am encouraging a lot more people to take part, especially more local Emirati families.”

Entries cost Dh180 for adults, Dh110 for children, which include a pink inspired gift pack, a t-shirt, finishers medal and post-run refreshments.

Dr. Majdi Abd El Muhdi, head of corporate communications at ADCB, said: “We are proud to sponsor the ADCB Zayed Sports City Pink 5k and 10k Run series for the fourth year as it encourages runners at all levels to strive to achieve a personal ambition.

“It has been truly wonderful to see the increasing number of runners turn out for the run every year in support of Breast Cancer Awareness.

At ADCB we are committed to supporting the well-being of our customers and the broader community in the UAE. Striking a favourable balance can be hard with the pressures of modern life, but it is of vital importance to find the time to exercise regularly.”
