Highest building in the world? Check. Longest greetings card mosaic in the world? You betcha. Largest flag made entirely of pencils? Yes, seriously. But craziest crazy golf course in the world? Not yet.

Despite all the open space, primed for a desert links, no grandiose mini-golf course exists in the Emirates. For those wanting a fix of golf’s short-form, however, there are still options out there.

Hidden firmly away from the searing summer sun, Tee & Putt Mini-Golf at Wafi Mall is one such destination. It’s an enjoyable 18-hole offering that caters for kids, both big and small.

The indoor course is designed with an intergalactic theme, the darkened downstairs room at Wafi brought spectacularly to life by fluorescent aliens and spaceships. It’s garish and gaudy, but then no-one is looking for refinement in a mini-golf course.

The unidentified flying objects are not just on the walls; players should be careful not to hit the balls too hard as they have a habit of ending up on the other side of the course. Just hope that you’re playing partner lets you take a mulligan.

The difficulty of the holes varies but generally they are pretty simple – those usually elusive holes-in- one should come a little easier as long as the astronauts are avoided and the martians missed.

“Mini-golf is a great activity for the whole family and makes golf really accessible,” Tee & Putt customer service representative Joey Espinola said.

“The glow-in- the dark theme adds a cool twist to the game and every hole is unique with different contours and interactive obstacles.

“All abilities should find it challenging, yet fun to play – we get a lot of kids of course but also people love to come here for team-building days.”

Engineering a route through the array of obstacles is great fun and the novelty of playing with glow-in-the dark putters and balls is guaranteed to bring a smile to children and adults alike.

In truth, though, Tee & Putt is probably a little more suitable for a kids’ party than a first date – there’s actually a separate illuminated area in which groups can tuck in to their almost certainly rocket-shaped birthday cakes.

Corporate packages are also popular but the magic shows, face painting and potential to create neon T-shirts will likely appeal more to a much younger generation.

But whether four or 40, the chance to escape the UAE heat is definitely an attractive prospect. So launch out of the solar-induced sweatfest of summer golf in Dubai and into the Tee & Putt Mini-Golf solar system; it may not be the most extraordinary course on the planet, but it is definitely the most extra-terrestrial.

Eighteen holes at Tee & Putt Mini-Golf costs Dh75 for adults and Dh45 for kids. For more information visit www.teeandputt.com or www.facebook.com/minigolfdubai.
