Going Out: Escape the summer heat and try Performance Golf at Zayed Sports City

The climate is starting to get humid but you can still get into the swing of things as golf comes indoors at Zayed Sports City.

Whether you’re an experienced player or just want to have some fun, Performance Golf is the place to visit thanks to its high definition simulator. With 26 international golf courses to choose from, as well as different feature games, the simulator has all the capabilities to improve your game as it analyses your movement.

Having been open in the UAE for nearly two years, the number of people trying out the facility has been very encouraging. And with the weather not expected to cool down for a few months, general manager Travis Bundus is hoping that figure will increase.

“This is a very exciting piece of technology,” he said. “When people see it on television, they think it’s a computer game. But when they try it, you can say it’s as close as you can get to real-life golf.”

Standing in just one spot, you can take your shot and see how far the ball has been hit. One of the big advantages for experienced golfers is that the length of the shot is measured as well as its ball and club speed. Another impressive feature is you can watch videos of how you’ve swung the ball and how to improve your movement.

“With this device, you get a lot more feedback on how you’ve hit the ball and what you need to
improve. For people who play the game often, this is a great way to enhance their game,” said Bundus.

For newcomers or kids, there are many games they can play including ‘Smash Window’ and ‘Nearest to the Pin’ competition.

Performance Golf gives feedback on how you hit the ball.

“The best thing is that it’s open to all abilities,” said Bundus. “Whether you’re a serious player or just play for fun, the Performance Golf allows you to do that.”

The UAE are blessed with some fantastic golf courses but Bundus insisted Performance Golf has plenty of selling points.

He said: “Golf is generally expensive to play the game. Equipment can be high in costs and you will need to buy a lot of things like clubs and shoes to play outdoors. Here, you can come in wearing your T-shirts and flip-flops because it’s just a simulator.”

Advance booking is preferred, with a one-hour session costing Dh250.

“This is a great package because it’s not just for one person. If people want to come as a group, then that’s fine and they can take it in turns to play golf,” said Bundus.

Alternatively, a one-month membership costs Dh950 which includes a league competition where you can test yourself against players over four rounds.

Bundus said: “It will provide plenty of fun and it’s certainly unique in the UAE. Whatever the weather, this place is open and it’s great if you want some hours to kill while you’re at Zayed Sports City.”
