There has been no shortage of numbers at the Ramadan Bowling Tournament and if you want to see why it’s highly regarded then there’s still time to sign up and get your hands on the winning prize.
Supported by National Drilling Company (NDC), the event at Khalifa International Bowling Centre, Zayed Sports City in Abu Dhabi has proved to be a big hit in previous years and so far, 2016 has been no different. Since June 5, the turnout has been encouraging with people showcasing their talents each night between 21:00 and 03:00 across different divisions.
The Disabled titles have already been decided with Walid Mohamed Arjumand and Nasra Ahmed Al Se- qatri bowling their way to victory.
But the Open, Graded (average 185 or less) and Youth qualifying rounds are still ongoing (to end between June 22-25), and those with the highest scores will advance to the knockout stages.
With an attractive prize of Dh140,000 up for grabs, Barry Bremner, general manager at Zayed Sports City, insists it’s a great opportunity to play an exciting sport in a tournament that has only gone from strength to strength.
“This tournament is as old as Khalifa International Bowling Centre, having started the first Ramadan after we opened,” he said. “The fact that we have been able to maintain this for so long speaks of its success, as does the fact that the attendance continues to grow.
“As with every programme, we work hard to offer high-quality facilities and professionally- organised events. This then leads to strong bowlers participating, making it a place where people are really challenged in the competition. Together, these three elements have given the Ramadan Bowling Tournament a great reputation so much so that it has attracted the attention of bowlers in other emirates and even other Gulf countries.
“From a practical perspective, the Ramadan Bowling Tournament is designed specifically to fit into the Ramadan calendar. There are different divisions based on age or ability and countless sessions to register your score throughout the month, so there is really an opportunity for everyone to join. More than this though, it is a tournament with a great reputation and a strong legacy that any bowler would want to be part of.”
