Going Out: Talise Fitness’ Sandstorm is the last fitness obstacle course of the season

The UAE weather is getting warmer but this hasn’t stopped Talise Fitness in organising their final obstacle event of the season later this month.

More than 70 people will flock to the Jumeirah Beach Hotel in Dubai on April 29 for the hugely popular Sandstorm but there’s still time to join them with registration closing on April 27.

Now in its seventh edition, the event has grown rapidly in popularity since it was launched in 2007. And it’s no surprise why.

Competing as teams (of three people), they will climb, crawl, run or jump through a series of challenges in the 4km course which involves land, sand and the sea – all in the backdrop of some of Dubai’s iconic buildings – Burj Al Arab and the Madinat Jumeirah.

“Obstacle courses have become incredibly popular in Dubai and we saw an opportunity to create something a little bit different to what is currently offered,” said Tim Dorrington, general manager of Talise Fitness at Jumeirah Beach Hotel.

“What we wanted to do was make the most of the iconic facilities that we have available and give participants an experience that was not only challenging but also a lot of fun, and something that could be enjoyed across all fitness levels.”

Compete in teams.

Besides the usual faces returning, Dorrington insists the Sandstorm has become a big hit with corporates.

“We have got a lot of interest from corporates and that is very encouraging,” he said. “With it being a three-person team, it’s a chance for people to split tasks and get involved, plus it’s great for team building.”

He added: “It will be great competition because the regular athletes, who’ve been competing during the season, will return while it’s a fantastic opportunity to get active.

“The great part about is that it is open to all abilities. Whether you’re a beginner, intermediate or advanced level athlete, it’s something that is doable and most importantly it’s extremely fun.”

Entries cost Dh600 per team (Dh200 per person) while each participant must be aged 16 and over.

While there will be some attractive prizes up for grabs, Dorrington insists there’s plenty of positives by competing.

“It’s the last obstacle race of the season for Talise Fitness so that’s an extra incentive not to miss out,” he said. “Plus they’ve been hugely popular and we expect the same this month. It’s perfect way to start the weekend by doing fun exercise in a stunning venue.”
