The two events have been added to the Super Sports calendar for 2016 with the emphasis being place on participation rather than results.

Hundreds are hoped to flock to Rashid School for Boys in Dubai for the X-Country Run this Saturday and if you want to join them, then hurry up as registration closes midnight tonight.

Athletes will run on different terrains including grass, sand, gravel and paved roads within the school grounds.

Six categories are on offer with age groups ranging from under-9 to under-19 with distances varying from 1km to 3km.

The young athletes will be tested over a number of terrains.

Andrew Toward of Rashid School for Boys, said: “A series of races like this for juniors has not been organised in Dubai yet and we are hoping it will be well supported. Last week we held an Inter-Schools X-Country race here and had close to 900 kids running and that is very encouraging and we hope more will turn out for the Junior X-Country Run.”

If you miss this weekend’s race, then there are three more planned on February 19, March 19 and April 29.

Super Sports are no strangers to hosting activities and given its success of their aquathlons in previous edition, they’ve started their junior aquathlon.

With it being held on February 13, places are still available with registration closing next Wednesday.

Taking place at the same venue, the children, competing in the same age categories as the XCountry Run, will swim between 100m and 300m, before running 1km to 3km to the finish line.

“The Aquathlon distances give all a fair chance of competing the course. The swim takes place in a 25m six laned swimming pool and the run is on the grass fields of the school,” said Dominic Mann, one of the aquathlon organisers.

Further races are also scheduled for March 4, April 16 and 29. There will be plenty to play for with medals for the top three competitors for boys and girls in each age group.

Entry fee is Dh55 per child and includes an electronic chip timing and downloadable certificates.
