Xherdan Shaqiri and Granit Xhaka are potentially facing a two-match ban at the World Cup after their controversial celebration in Switzerland’s win over Serbia on Friday.

The players, both of ethnic Albanian heritage, appeared to make a gesture of a nationalist symbol of Albania during the game.

FIFA could punish the players if they decide through their investigation that the two were making a political statement.

Regardless of the outcome, Swiss Football Association president Peter Gillieron said the focus must remain on football.

“We want to focus on the next match, that’s the most important, football is the most important. The other things now are in the hands of FIFA and we wait and we see,” Gillieron said.

See what else Gillieron had to say about the controversy in the video below.
