Injured captain Philipp Lahm and goalkeeper Manuel Neuer are set to join Germany's pre-World Cup training camp on Friday – sooner than expected, according to assistant coach Hansi Flick.

The German Football Association's (DFB) medical staff are working round the clock to get the Bayern Munich pair fit, but they are both expected to travel to Germany's north Italian training camp before the weekend with Neuer's injury in particular healing faster than expected.

The 28-year-old damaged ligaments in his right shoulder in Bayern's German Cup final win over Borussia Dortmund in Berlin on Saturday and, along with ankle-injury victim Lahm, is receiving intense treatment from DFB chief doctor Hans-Wilhelm Mueller-Wohlfahrt in Munich.

Flick revealed goalkeeper Marc-Andre Ter Stegen, who signed for Barcelona on Thursday, is on stand-by to replace Neuer, but Germany's assistant coach stressed there is no danger of either Neuer or Lahm missing the World Cup.

"The treatment they are receiving is very intensive, Manuel had six hours of it yesterday," said Flick.

"He's making good progress, but we'll have to wait and see when he can take part in training.

"(Neuer and Lahm) were examined today and Mueller-Wohlfahrt says they are doing well.

"We are assuming they can both travel tomorrow (Friday)."

Flick also said Real Madrid midfielder Sami Khedira is set to join the German squad on Monday after playing in Saturday's Champions League final against Atletico Madrid in Lisbon.

Germany start their World Cup campaign against Portugal in Salvador on June 16 and also face Ghana and the United States in Group G.
