Adults craving football need to look no further than E-Sports’ Mix it Up IV mixed league for their fix of on-pitch competition.

The fourth season of the adult co-ed league begins on April 1, bringing together men and women for fun competition. Running until May 23, games will be played on Saturday evenings in Motor City.

To encourage team-work between men and women, the league has special rules to encourage fair play and balance. Some of the rules include men being allowed to score only from inside the penalty box, while women take free kicks.

“Coming into the fourth season of mixed league, it has been a great experience to see men and women competing beside each other,” said Jessica Prelle, communications manager at E-Sports.

“The standard of football is impressive and the girls are holding their own.

“The mixed league is like a community, we socialise together on and off the pitch. 

“Some of the players play toget-her up to four times a week, hence teams are constantly improving.”

The league has grown from six teams to now 12 strong, with the third season just wrapping up on March 11 as nearly 150 players – about 90 women and 60 men from over 20 different countries – aged 20 to 40 took part.

Phoenix FC earned the top spot, while Born2Perform were run-ners-up and Champions FC took third.  Registration is still open for the upcoming league and teams have until March 22 to register.

Teams need a minimum of four women and three men to play, but can sign up to 12 players for substitutions. Individual players who want to join will be allocated to teams. 

Included are referees, awards for winning teams, MVPs and top scorers.

The Heatwave Cup will also take place on March 20, providing perfect prep for anyone playing in the league. The mixed and men’s tournament will be held at GEMS Wellington Academy in Silicon Oasis.
