UAE U19’s thump Indonesia to reach AFC quarter-finals

The UAE will take on hosts Myanmar in the AFC U19 Championship quarter-finals after a convincing 4-1 win over Indonesia at the Wunna Theikdi Stadium, Nay Pyi Taw this afternoon.

Goals from Mohamed Al Akaberi, Ahmed Al Hashmi, Saeed Ali Hassan and Ahmed Rabia Gheilani ensured that Dr Abdulla Misfer's youngsters finished top of Group B on goal difference.

The UAE had already raced into a comfortable 3-0 lead before Indonesia's consolation through Muhamad Drujad on 51 minutes and as reward will now head to the Youth Training Centre in Yangon to take on Myanmar at 1pm (GST) on Friday.

Having shared 1-1 and 2-2 draws with Australia and Uzbekistan respectively, the UAE needed a win from their final game to secure qualification as one of the top-two sides in the group.

The Socceroos and Uzbekis shared a 1-1 draw, which shaw the latter qualify as runners-up. 

Myanmar qualified after finishing second in Group A despite losing their final game 2-0 to Iran yesterday.
