Skydive Dubai will represent the UAE at the inaugural F5WC World Finals at Dubai World Trade Centre from June 12-14, after emerging victorious in the regional qualifier over the weekend in Dubai.

The F5WC is an amateur five-a-side football tournament which will see the best 32 teams from around the world compete in the world finals, with qualifiers from Brazil, USA, Spain, Australia, Saudi Arabia and Hong Kong being flown in for the tournament.

This weekend saw 32 of Dubai’s best amateur five-a-side teams, from more than 100, go head-tohead in the qualifying rounds at Nad Al Sheba Sports Complex.

Early favourites Dubai FC were eliminated by Football Centre 3-1, who went on to meet Jeff Boys in the first semi-final. Football Centre advanced to the final after a lastminute goal.

On the other side of the draw, Skydive Dubai took out Team Etihad and Bayer Neverlusen to reach the semis by a single goal in both games. In the tightest match of the day, Skydive Dubai dug deep to beat Al Karama 2-1 to make the final.

In the decider, both Skydive Dubai and Football began cautiously with the game scoreless for the majority of playing time.

However, in the dying seconds of the match a long floating ball into the Football Centre penalty area was met by Jawad Alegaidy, who glanced a header into the bottom left corner.

This opened the floodgates, with Skydive Dubai banging in two more goals for a resounding 3-0 victory.

Craig McConnon, managing director of sponsors Prestige Wealth Solutions, said: “We recognise the positive impact sport can have on a community and fully support the championship’s aim of bringing together different countries to play amateur football.”

Entry to the June 12-14 World Finals is free.
