They might have fallen short of reigning supreme but it was a memorable tour to Sweden for Dubai’s Go Pro Sports at the Gothia World Youth Cup.

The football academy fielded two teams – girls’ Under-15s and the boys’ U-14s and showed their potential in an event that saw more than 1,000 international clubs.

Coming up against Swedish opponents, the girls finished third in their group, behind Gimonas Umea IF and Lekstorps IF. Liz Foreshaw was among the stand-out players, netting five times including a hat-trick in their 5-3 loss to Nassjo FF and a double in the 2-0 win over Linkoping Kenty.

That earned them a last-32 clash in the Plate event against Balinge IF with the hosts prevailing 4-2 on penalties after 0-0 draw.

The boys also impressed, reaching the last-16 stage of the Plate event.

Having finished third in their group, Go Pro Sports comfortably beat Sorskogens IF 9-0 in the last-64, before overcoming TSV Buchholz 2-0 thanks to strikes from Shayan Azari and Omar Ghosaini.

The Dubai Super Cup and Dubai Sports City champions’ run ended with a 2-0 loss to Kulladals FF.

Kirk Hilton, Football academy director at Go Pro Sports, said: “It was great to see our boys and girls teams excel in the biggest youth tournament and they can be proud of their efforts.”
