Robinho will not be joining AGL after sealing move to Chinese side Guangzhou Evergrande

Robinho has joined Guangzhou Evergrande on a free transfer, the Chinese Super League club have announced, ending Al Jazira’s interest in the forward.

The 31-year-old will be reunited with Luiz Felipe Scolari, his former coach with the Brazil national team, after signing an initial six-month contract.

A statement on the club’s website read: “July 16, 2015 in the afternoon, Guangzhou Evergrande Football Club officially announced Brazilian striker Robson de Souza (Robinho) formally signed.

“Robinho joined on a free contract for a period of six months. After the expiration of the contract the club have a priority right of renewal.

“The player will wear jersey number 60. He will have his medical around July 20 after joining up with the team in Guangzhou.”

There was AGL interest in Robinho’s signature with Al Ahli, Bani Yas and, most recently, Al Jazira all registering interest in the player but a move to China has long been touted.

Robinho has played for Real Madrid, Manchester City and AC Milan since beginning his career with Santos, where he has returned for two loan spells in recent years.

Evergrande have won the Chinese title for the last four years and currently lie second in this season’s table, a point behind Beijing Guoan.

Robinho joins a squad containing several compatriots including midfielder Paulinho, recently signed from Tottenham, and striker Alan.
