Celta Vigo have agreed a deal to sign Denis Suarez from Barcelona, the two La Liga clubs have announced.

The Galician outfit will pay an initial £11.5 million for the 25-year-old midfielder, who was on Celta’s books as a youngster before moving to Manchester City in 2011.

The Spain international has also played for Sevilla, Villarreal and Arsenal, where he spent the second half of last season on loan from Barca.

A Barca statement read: “FC Barcelona and Celta Vigo have reached an agreement for the transfer of the player Denis Suarez. The Galician team will pay FC Barcelona 12.9m euros plus 3.1m euros in add-ons.”

Suarez, who was born less than 20 miles from Vigo, played 71 matches for Barca and leaves the Catalan giants having won La Liga, two Copa del Rey titles and two Spanish Super Cups.

Celta added in a statement: “Eight years after leaving for Manchester City, Denis Suarez will once again wear the Celta jersey for the next four seasons.

“The Salceda midfielder will return to the club where he was trained and with which he made his debut with the B team at the age of 16 when he was still a youth player.”
