Real Madrid have announced the signing of highly-rated Japan teenager Takefusa Kubo from FC Tokyo.

The 18-year-old attacking midfielder, who had also been linked to Barcelona, Manchester City and Paris St Germain, will join Madrid’s reserve team Castilla next season.

A statement on Real’s official website read: “The top level of the Madrid academy will count in their ranks one of the most promising young players in world football. A technically gifted and hugely talented attacking midfielder, he possess wonderful vision, quick feet and has an eye for goal.”

Kubo, who made his international debut against El Salvador earlier this month and is in Japan’s squad for the upcoming Copa America, had been on Barca’s books as a youngster.

However, the ‘Japanese Messi’ was among the players who left the Catalan giants after Barca were sanctioned by FIFA in 2014 for breaches relating to the international transfer and registration of players under the age of 18.
