Barcelona president Josep Maria Bartomeu admitted that Dutch sensation Matthijs de Ligt is a transfer target for the Catalan giants.

The defending La Liga champions recently added Ajax star Frenkie de Jong to their summer roster and could make a move for his Dutch team-mate De Ligt soon.

The 19-year-old has captained his side in a Europa League final at the age of 17 and has displayed immense character and maturity for a player of his age.

“His name is on the table,” Bartomeu admitted in an interview with SER Catalunya, according to Marca.

“Where there is such talent away from Barcelona, we’re always looking at them.

Bartomeu admitted that the board will be discussing on De Ligt soon but made a move for De Jong in the winter as he was sought after by many big clubs.

“It’s a topic that will be discussed in our sports planning which begins in March, with De Jong we felt we had to move quickly because there were many clubs that wanted him.”
