Inter’s general manager Beppe Marotta confirmed the club’s interest in Atletico Madrid defender Diego Godin and stated that the signing could be made official soon.

Reports have suggested that the Uruguayan will join the Nerazzuri in the summer after he runs out of contract with Los Colencheros.

Godin is likely to sign a two-year deal with an option to extend to a third and will be earning €5.5m according to Cadena Ser.

Marotta is optimistic that the signing will be completed in the near future.

“I am happy, we are at a very advanced stage in negotiations and it was nice to see Godin score yesterday,” the Inter chief told Sky Sport Italia, as cited by Football Italia.

“As for the rest, let’s just say that I am very optimistic and believe that we’ll be able to make an official announcement pretty soon.”

Atletico’s policy of not offering contracts of over one year in length again points to a potential move for Godin.
