Sassuolo forward Kevin-Prince Boateng is close to completing a loan move to Barcelona, according to Gianluca Di Marzio.

The 31-year-old is set to sign for the Catalans in a six-month loan deal with an option to buy for €8 million.

Barcelona have been short in the attacking department this season and are stretched thin since Munir El Haddadi left for Sevilla this month, leaving Luis Suarez as the only recognised striker in the senior team.

As such, Boateng is expected to boost their options up front while also capable of featuring in midfield.

The Ghana international had joined Sassuolo from Eintracht Frankfurt ahead of the current campaign and has impressed for the Italian outfit, scoring five goals in 15 appearances for the club.

Barcelona were also linked with the likes of Alvaro Morata, Carlos Vela and Cristhian Stuani during the ongoing transfer window but have settled on Boateng who has previous La Liga experience as well.

He spent the 2016/17 campaign with Las Palmas, scoring 10 goals in 25 starts.
