Given that both Manchester United players from the Belgium national team, Romelu Lukaku and Maroune Fellaini, were not in the squad for fitness reasons, Goal believe the Portuguese was there to watch Toby Alderweireld.

The United manager tried desperately to bring the Tottenham centre-back to Old Trafford over the summer but failed in his efforts to do so. As a result, the Red Devils have been in defensive turmoil this season.

Mourinho may be looking to rectify that ahead of next season with the 29-year-old defender available for just £25m in the summer due to a clause in his contract.
