Manchester City academy product Jadon Sancho is being linked with a shock return to Manchester – with Manchester United.

The young English playmaker left City last summer in search of more first-team opportunities, joining Borussia Dortmund in August 2017. It’s a move that has begun to pay off, as the 18-year-old has been lighting up the form charts for the Bundesliga leaders this season.

Sancho has become the first English player this season to be involved in ten goals, scoring four and assisting another six for Dortmund to lead the side’s charge to the top of the table.

His form has made many wonder why City let him go, though they are stocked with attacking options. Manager Pep Guardiola responded tersely to a question regarding Sancho’s form earlier this month, saying, “he didn’t want to be here.”

However, the reigning Premier League champions could be made to rue their decision even further if his next move brings him back to Manchester playing in red rather than blue.

United have emerged as shock favourites to sign the player, as their attack continues to sputter in what has been a mediocre start to the season, according to various sources.

But one of their own youngsters, Anthony Martial, has begun to hit form, while another in Marcus Rashford may get a longer run of games thanks to the poor form of lead striker Romelu Lukaku.

And with Lukaku and Alexis Sanchez both struggling to click into gear for the club this season, it’s no surprise that the Red Devils are looking for more attacking options – and a young trio of Martial, Rashford, and Sancho would no doubt make the fans happy.

Sancho was one of the stars of England’s triumphant U-17 World Cup campaign in India last year, and made his debut for the senior side earlier this month during the Three Lions’ 0-0 draw with Croatia.
