Ajax have no intention of selling defender Matthijs de Ligt in the winter, sporting director Marc Overmars says, though he could not offer any guarantees on the 19-year-old’s future at the club beyond this season.

De Ligt is a target for Manchester City and Barcelona, while Roma have also been linked with the Netherlands international.

The competition for De Ligt’s signature could prompt his suitors to act swiftly once the transfer window reopens in January, but Overmars is adamant that the young star will not be leaving this season.

“The percentage that De Ligt leaves Ajax in January is zero per cent,” Overmars told LaRoma24.it.

However, he did acknowledge that the player could leave next summer, saying, “Yes, I confirm it is a possibility.”

De Ligt signed a four-year contract extension at Ajax last year, meaning his current deal at the club runs until 2021, though it’s highly unlikely he’ll stay to see out that contract given the interest in his services from some of Europe’s leading clubs.
