Real Madrid could make a late move for former White and Lyon forward Mariano, who had been set on a transfer window switch to Sevilla.

According to Marca, Los Blancos are keen to exercise their first refusal option on the 25-year-old hitman before this month’s August 31 La Liga deadline as Julen Lopetegui seeks striking reinforcements.

Mariano only left the Bernabeu last summer but Real are at the front of the queue should they wish to re-sign the Dominican Republic ace.

Even if Sevilla press ahead with a €30 million move for Mariano, Madrid have 48 hours to usurp that bid and sign the forward as part of the transfer arrangement made last summer.

Should, however, the Spanish giants decide not to pursue the player and as a result he joins the Andalusia side – then Real are poised to pocket a sell-on clause fee believed to be in the region of €12m.
