Barcelona boss Ernesto Valverde wants back-up goalkeeper Jasper Cillessen to stay at the club, despite speculation linking him with a move away in the transfer window.

The Netherlands shot-stopper is an understudy for first-choice Marc Andre ter Stegen and has been used mainly in Copa del Rey competition in each of the past two seasons following his switch from Ajax in August 2016.

But, ahead of the new season, Barca are adamant they want to keep the 29-year-old.

“We value him a lot, so we want him to stay,” said Valverde, who was speaking before his team’s Spanish Super Cup clash against Sevilla.
