Chelsea eye move for Mattia Caldara as swoop for Juventus’ Daniele Rugani hits snag

Juventus defender Mattia Caldara has emerged as a top target for Chelsea boss Maurizio Sarri, The Mirror reports.

The news comes somewhat as a surprise given the Blues were in talks to sign the centre-back’s club team-mate Daniele Rugani, however, a swoop for the 24-year-old Italian appears to have hit a snag.

The Old Lady are thought to have priced Chelsea out of the picture for Rugani, leaving the Premier League side no alternative but to go after Caldara, who is available at a more affordable £30million fee, as opposed to £40million.

Amazingly, Caldara has yet to play a game for Juventus and has been on loan at Atalanta since joining the Turin giants in January 2017.
