Lyon president Jean-Michel Aulas has claimed that it would be difficult for midfielder Nabil Fekir to find a better side, despite rumours linking him to top European sides, and his future being uncertain.

The Frenchman was heavily linked to Premier League side Liverpool prior to the World Cup in Russia but a deal couldn’t be finalised and negotiations between the two clubs ended on June 9, as Lyon announced he the the 25-year old would stay in France.

Fekir wasn’t a regular starter in France’s World Cup winning campaign, and made six substitute appearances, including one in the final against Croatia.

“In the current context, as a world champion and with a Lyon team with the ambition to do something very good next year, it’s difficult for Nabil to find a much better club,” Aulas claimed in a press conference.

Meanwhile, defender Marcelo too has seen interest from West Ham United, whose bid was rejected by Lyon earlier and Aulas admitted he faces a tough task in trying to keep both stars before the transfer window shuts.

“I don’t fear anything,” he insisted. “If they leave it will be that we’ve found our amount, but we will do everything so that they don’t leave.

“We will surely have a bit of a storm in the week before the end of the English market on August 9.”
