Ajax’s young stars have been catching the eye of Europe’s other leading clubs but sporting director Marc Overmars says no more players will be allowed to leave this season, even for “crazy” transfer fees.

Frenkie de Jong, in particular, has been heavily linked with a move to Barcelona after enjoying an excellent season, while Donny van de Beek and Matthijs de Ligt have also generated plenty of transfer speculation.

However, Overmars, a former Barcelona player, told De Telegraaf that the players would be better off staying at the club for another season.

“Let them [any interested clubs] come back next year,” Overmars said.

“Let the players play 40 games with Ajax this year.

“They’ll not be allowed to leave, even for crazy amounts.”
