Former Shakhtar Donetsk manager Mircea Lucescu has confirmed that Manchester United have completed the signing of Fred.

Having paid £13m for the midfielder in 2013, Shakhtar are said to have agree to sell him to United for a fee in the region of £52m.

Lucescu had initially signed Fred at Shakhtar and takes some of the credit for the player he has grown into.

“I’m really pleased Fred has completed his transfer to Manchester United, I am proud of him,” said Lucescu, who is now in charge of the Turkey national team.

“When I signed him at Shakhtar, Taison and Bernard were playing in his position. I transformed his position, giving him a more defensive role.”
