Atletico Paranaense winger Marcos Guilherme emerges as reported target for Al Jazira

The summer refit at fallen Arabian Gulf League champions Al Jazira has seen them register interest in signing ex-Brazil Under-20 right winger Marcos Guilherme from Atletico Paranaense, according to reports.

Guilherme, 22, is likely to be made available for transfer once his loan move to Sao Paulo expires next month. This follows a return of three goals during 25 run-outs in all competitions since a loan move to the Tricolor was sealed last summer.

An article by UOL states that the Pride of Abu Dhabi made contact with representatives last week. But their overtures were not met with a convincing response and one of the slender attacker’s agents, Pablo Miranda, is now in Italy attempting to land a move to Serie A.

Jazira are currently plotting what to do with their four-player foreign quota for next season after a trophyless campaign, which saw them limp home a distant seventh in the top flight.

Brazilian forward Romarinho is likely to be retained after his scoring exploits in the Club World Cup and 2018 AFC Champions League. A positive impression was also left by Oman centre-back Mohammed Al Musalami after his shock move from Fanja on the last day of the winter transfer market.

Harib Al Saadi, the latter’s international colleague, and Morocco centre midfielder Mbark Boussoufa are highly unlikely to be retained.

Jazira are also on the lookout for a new coach after Henk ten Cate, 63, could not be convinced to extend his revolutionary two-and-a-half-year reign.
