JOHNNY EVANS

Manchester City lead the chase to sign the influential West Brom captain. The Daily Mirror reports the Northern Ireland international could leave the club for £3m (Dh 14.8m) following the Baggies’ relegation.

With John Stones slipping down the pecking order and add to that Vincent Kompany’s constant injury problems, Evans’s leadership qualities would make him a fearsome addition at heart of the City defence. A move to the Etihad Stadium would guarantee the potential to win trophies, but it is unlikely he will see first team action on a regular basis if both men are fit.

JAMAAL LASCELLES

Chelsea are preparing to launch a bid for Newcastle captain Jamaal Lascelles, reports the Evening Standard. Gary Cahill is 32 and David Luiz is 31, with Chelsea determined to add youth to their squad.

The Blues are keen to bolster their defensive options, and the 24-year-old ticks all the boxes for Antonio Conte’s side. But Rafa Benitez will be desperate to keep hold of Lascelles, who was a close contender to make Gareth Southgate’s World Cup squad.
