With the end of the season fast approaching, several stars watch their current contracts run down.

The summer transfer window promises to feature plenty of huge transfer fees for us to balk at but there will also be a few bargains in the mix.

Here’s a look at ten players who could be on the move on a free transfer this summer.

JACK WILSHERE

Jack Wilshere has been linked with a shock move to Barcelona in a bid to help fill the void that the departing Andres Iniesta will leave behind. While newly-promoted Wolves are reportedly also in the hunt for his signature.

The Arsenal midfielder however, is expected to sign a new contract at the Emirates Stadium after he returned to fitness midway through this season and began to get back to his best for a couple of months, only to be struck down by injury again.

PEPE REINA

The Napoli No1’s contract is running out this summer and despite helping the side push Juventus close for the Serie A title, Pepe Reina appears set to move on at the end of the season.

The experienced Spaniard is expected to choose between staying in Italy with AC Milan or returning to Liverpool in the Premier League. The Reds are in the market for a goalkeeper and while they have been heavily linked to Roma’s Alisson, signing the 35-year-old on a free would make sense albeit only as a stop-gap solution.

GIORGIO CHIELLINI

The Italian stalwart has spent 13 years at Juventus, winning six Serie A titles and three Coppa Italia trophies along the way, but may be leaving the club at the end of the campaign.

Giorgio Chiellini has been linked with a host of clubs on a free transfer with Chelsea – where former coach Antonio Conte is in charge – among them. However, with Massimiliano Allegri a front-runner for the Arsenal job, rumours are rife that the 33-year-old may follow him to north London.

EMRE CAN

While the star-studded attack has shone for Liverpool this season, Emre Can has proved to be a dependable option in midfield and has been missed since his injury back in March.

The German is out of contract in the summer and appears to be edging towards a switch to Juventus with the Reds attempting to sign Sami Khedira in the bargain.

LUKE SHAW

Some would claim Luke Shaw still has a future at Manchester United after Jose Mourinho called him ‘one of the best left-backs around’ earlier this year.

However, the Portuguese’s direct contradiction in opting for Ashley Young ahead of the youngster on a regular basis coupled with him still yet to extend his contract suggests otherwise.

ARJEN ROBBEN

The flying Dutchman still delivers the goods for Bayern Munich, winning his seventh Bundesliga title with the German powerhouse in nine seasons.

He’s yet to put pen to paper over a new deal but with Franck Ribery extending his own contract this week, Arjen Robben is expected to follow suit.

MARIO BALOTELLI

He comes with a lot of baggage but on a free transfer, Mario Balotelli may well be worth the gamble. The Italian has enjoyed a resurgence at Nice, scoring 41 goals in 64 appearances for the Ligue 1 outfit since his arrival last season.

The 27-year-old is said to be ready to return to England according to his agent Mino Raiola.

YAYA TOURE

Pep Guardiola’s arrival was a sensational move for Manchester City but spelled the end of one their legends in Yaya Toure at the club.

The Ivorian didn’t figure in the Spaniard’s plans and after being on the fringes of the first team for the last two seasons, he’s set to leave Manchester although his next destination remains unclear.

FERNANDO TORRES

After bursting onto the scene at Atletico Madrid, Fernando Torres returned to the club after it all went pear-shaped at Chelsea. Largely playing a bench role, the Spaniard has made his contributions to the club over the last four seasons but is now ready to move on as his contract runs down.

The striker has already announced he will be leaving and a move to Chicago Fire in the MLS appears to be on the cards.

MAX MEYER

As one of the most promising German talents, Max Meyer is on the radar of several European clubs. The 22-year-old has refused to sign a new contract with Schalke and the club in turn have banned him for the rest of the season after he gave an unauthorised interview.

According to reports, Liverpool and Arsenal are the front-runners for his signature.
