Manchester United remain in the mix for centre-back Samuel Umtiti even though Barcelona are convinced a contract extension will be agreed before World Cup 2018, according to SPORT.

Umtiti, 24, is reportedly at the top of manager Jose Mourinho’s list of summer targets as he looks to revamp his defence. A €60 million (264.4m) release clause in his current deal has allowed hope to grow of a move to the Premier League.

But the newly crowned La Liga champions are confident fresh terms will be agreed before the defender heads off with France to this summer’s extravaganza in Russia.

Any new deal would dramatically increase the termination fee.
