Man United in advanced talks with Ajax to sign Justin Kluivert

17:46 04/02/2018

Talks to bring Ajax youngster Justin Kluivert, son of Dutch legend Patrick, to Manchester United, are reportedly at an advanced stage.

United manager Jose Mourinho was a coach at Barcelona when Kluivert Sr. was a player at the club, and has thus known the younger Kluivert since he was a little boy.

That relationship has meant Mourinho has kept tabs on the 18-year-old’s development, which saw the winger named in the Ajax squad for last year’s Europa League final against United.

Although he was an unused substitute, Mourinho comforted the youngster after his United side beat the Dutchman 2-0 to lift the trophy.

United and Ajax are now reportedly close to agreeing a deal for the youngster, for a fee of £10million plus add-ons. An agreement could be finalised at the end of the season.

Kluivert has made 29 first-team appearances for the Eredivisie side after making his debut last year, and is said to be excited about the prospect of playing in the Premier League.
