Javier Hernandez was unable to contain his excitement after being unveiled as Real Madrid’s only transfer deadline day signing.

Hernandez joined on a season-long loan from Manchester United after Los Blancos refused to pursue their interest in Radamel Falcao.

The Mexican striker, a self-confessed lifelong fan of Los Blancos, said: “Playing for Real Madrid is a dream come true.

“There is no player in the world who can say they wouldn’t like to wear this shirt or be at this club. It would be a big lie.”

Hernandez, 26, only scored four league goals for Manchester United last season, but he insisted he is ready to give everything to become a success at the Bernabeu.

“I always try to lead my life with a lot of objectives and goals and I’m here to give everything, both on and off the pitch,” he added.

“You’re going to see a decisive, determined Javier, a professional on and off the field, and I’ll try to repay the trust placed in me.”

Hernandez, nicknamed Chicharito or ‘The Little Pea’, will compete with Karim Benzema for a place in his new team’s starting line-up, although he is most likely to continue in the supersub role that he occupied throughout his four seasons at Old Trafford.

He confirmed that he had spoken briefly with his new manager Carlo Ancelotti, adding: “I had a very quick chat with him this morning. I’m grateful to him for trusting in me.”

Elsewhere in Spain, the lack of funds available to the vast majority of clubs meant that deadline day was relatively quiet.Reigning champions Atletico Madrid made the biggest move with the capture of Italian international forward Alessio Cerci on a three-year contract from Torino for around €20m (Dh96.4m).

Atletico’s sporting director Jose Luis Perez Caminero said: “The transfer of Cerci is a joy for everyone. We’ve had to make a big effort but we’re convinced it’s worth the effort because we consider him a key piece for our team.

“He will contribute speed, goals and will give us more alternatives in our attacking play.”

Another international striker on the move was veteran Portuguese star Helder Postiga, who joined top flight newcomers Deportivo La Coruna from Valencia.

Espanyol brought former Real Betis midfielder Jose Canas back to Spain after a disappointing spell in the Premier League with Swansea, Granada snapped up left back Luis Martins from Portuguese club Gil Vicente, and newly promoted Cordoba have signed Algerian striker Nabil Ghilas on loan from Porto.
