Alexis Sanchez to stay at Arsenal as Thomas Lemar move falls through

Alexis Sanchez is almost certain to stay at Arsenal despite suggestions earlier in the week and even on Thursday, transfer deadline day, that the Chilean forward would be granted his wish to leave the club.

Arsenal were only willing to sell Sanchez, who was the subject of two bids from Manchester City, if they were able to find a replacement, with Monaco’s Thomas Lemar the first preference.

The Gunners were ready to meet Monaco’s €100 million asking price, with a bid of that value said to have been accepted by the French club.

However, with the bid coming so late on deadline day, it’s likely that Arsenal don’t have the time to agree terms with Lemar in order to complete the transfer.

The player is in France’s squad for the national team’s game against Holland later on Thursday, making negotiating a contract and completing a medical difficult.

Lemar reportedly would prefer a move to Liverpool in any case.

With the Lemar transfer looking nearly impossible, Sanchez will not be allowed to leave this summer.
