Southampton defender Virgil van Dijk handed in a transfer request on Monday in what has become one of the most protracted transfer sagas of this summer.

Liverpool, who have shown the strongest interest in the Dutchman, were reported to the Premier League for an illegal approach earlier this summer, while Chelsea and Manchester City are also rumoured to be chasing Van Dijk’s signature.

The 26-year-old has been one of the most coveted players of this transfer window, having excelled at Southampton last season.

Van Dijk was bought from Celtic for £13 million in 2015, so Southampton are set to make a huge profit on the defender if they do choose to sell him. The Dutchman could command a transfer fee of up to £60 million.

Here’s a look at what Van Dijk has achieved in his two-year spell at Southampton.
