Neymar has officially informed Barcelona of his intention to leave the club, according to a statement released on Barcelona’s website.

“The player Neymar Jr, accompanied by his father and agent, has informed FC Barcelona this morning of his decision to leave the Club in a meeting held at the Club’s offices,” the statement says.

Barcelona confirmed that the €222million euro release clause in Neymar’s contract will have to be paid “in its entirety” in order for the Brazilian to be leave.

PSG are said to be ready to pay that amount, although there have been reports that either Barcelona or La Liga could report the French club to UEFA for being in breach of Financial Fair Play (FFP).

Both the club and the league allegedly believe that PSG cannot pay the full amount without violating FFP.

The Catalan club also confirmed that they are withholding a loyalty bonus in Neymar’s contract, which was due to be paid to Neymar on Monday. According to the statement, “the club has once again made it clear that the amount remains deposited with a notary until the case is resolved.”

Barcelona president Josep Vives is due to comment on the matter. In the meantime, the club maintain that Neymar “remains under contract at FC Barcelona but with temporary permission to not take part in training sessions.”
