Bayern Munich have agreed a deal with Real Madrid to sign James Rodriguez on a two-year loan deal, the German club have confirmed.

The Colombian’s future has been under scrutiny this summer after he fell down the pecking order at the Bernabeu.

Zinedine Zidane has used the attacking midfielder sparingly since he took over as manager, leading to James angling for a move away from the club.

Madrid have offered him up to several clubs but his transfer fee of £70m has been a major stumbling block as has his wages.

The 25-year-old was left out of the Champions League final winning squad last season.

“We’re delighted we’ve been able to complete this transfer,” said Bayern chairman Karl-Heinz Rummenigge.

“Signing James Rodriguez was our coach Carlo Ancelotti’s biggest wish, following their successful spell working together in Madrid.

“James is a very versatile player. He’s a goalscorer himself, he sets up a lot of goals and on top of that he’s great from set-pieces. There’s no question that this transfer further increases the quality in our team.”
