Manchester United are going through a huge transition under Louis van Gaal. For the Dutchman to create and mould a balnced side, he must get rid of some big names.

Below are the five most likely candidates that are set for the ruthless chop:

Marouane Fellaini

Although he has been name-checked by Van Gaal for his quality, the fact the Dutchman is looking to sign at least one new central midfielder combined with Fellaini’s wretched first season at the club means he’s a near-certain departure. Napoli have
contacted United over a loan deal, but the club will likely wait to see if there are any cash offers forthcoming.

Shinji Kagawa

Patience has seemingly worn thin regarding the Japanese playmaker who has shown flickers of talent but not enough to justify the £17m (Dh105.8m) United paid. His cause is not helped by Juan Mata, Wayne Rooney and Ander Herrera, as all three are
potentially vying for the No10 role. A return to Germany looks likely as Jurgen Klopp would love to take him back to Dortmund.

Anderson

Still a United player after a largely unremarkable loan spell at Fiorentina meant the Italian club had no plans to try and sign the Brazilian permanently. Is highly unlikely to subscribe to Van Gaal’s work ethic and his seven years spent at United have been a waste of both the club’s and his time. At just 26 he is not totally unsellable but, as yet, there has been little interest in the Brazilian.

Nani

The eternal enigma whose five-year contract signed last summer is another legacy of the Moyes-era United fans will be keen to forget. Nani is understood to want a move but a combination of his wages and transfer fee – due to his contract length – means suitors are being put off. There is mutual acceptance he may leave but Nani just doesn’t represent value for money.

Javier Hernandez

Nemanja Vidic has publicly recommended his new club Inter for the Mexican striker, who hasn’t kicked on after a fine
debut season in 2010-11. Of the strikers Inter have been linked with – among them Fernando Torres and Edin Dzeko – Hernandez, 26, would be the most affordable and youngest option.
