With the transfer window now officially open from July 1, the frenetic nature of speculation is only going to increase.

Rumours are starting to gather pace and we take a look at the latest stories doing the rounds in the media.

ROMELU LUKAKU

Manchester United have agreed a £75million deal for Everton striker Romelu Lukaku according to various reports.

The 24-year-old appeared set to rejoin former club Chelsea this summer but it is understood he is now on the verge of linking up with the manager that sold him in 2014.

United boss Jose Mourinho has been desperate to bring in a striker this summer and a move for Lukaku is now close.

SPORT360 VERDICT

Curiouser and curiouser. This transfer window has been quite the mixed bag. Lukaku seemed destined for Chelsea and Alvaro Morata for United. Now out of the blue, the Everton blue, the Belgian has one foot in Old Trafford and interest in the Real Madrid player has all but ended.

It could be that United lost patience with Madrid’s bullying in the transfer market and opted to go for Lukaku. Either way, it seems like a done deal now.

RIYAD MAHREZ

Leicester Mercury report that bookies have slashed the odds on Riyad Mahrez heading to Arsenal from Leicester City.

The 26-year-old attacking midfield has been linked with the Gunners for some tome and could be their third signing of the summer after they completed a move for Alexandre Lacazette.

With Alexis Sanchez expected to leave for Manchester City, it appears Arsene Wenger is bringing in new recruits to soften the blow of losing the Chilean.

RATING: 6/10

SPORT360 VERDICT

The Algerian is certainly a very Arsenal player so to speak but it would only make sense if Sanchez does leave this summer. If not, they have too many players who operate in the three behind the striker.

There haven’t been strong enough links yet but if the Chilean’s move to City goes forward, expect this story to gather pace.

PHILIPPE COUTINHO

Le10 Sport claims Paris Saint-Germain are preparing a £70m bid for Philippe Coutinho.

After failing in their attempts to lure Kylian Mbappe and Cristiano Ronaldo to the French capital, the Brazilian is next on their list.

RATING: 2/10

SPORT360 VERDICT

While the attacking midfielder has been linked to the likes of Barcelona and PSG in the past, the fee quoted is unusually high for an opening bid.

Liverpool will be reluctant to sell one of their prized assets as well, especially as Jurgen Klopp looks determined to build a formidable side capable of competing in the Premier League and Champions League.
