Arsenal’s Germany star calls on World Cup winner to join Gunners

Lukas Podolski has told Sami Khedira life will be “fun” for him at Arsenal, should he consider leaving Real Madrid for north London.

Khedira’s future at the Bernabeu is uncertain as he spent much of last season injured and Carlo Ancelotti has reinforced his squad this summer with the high-profile, and expensive, additions of Toni Kroos and James Rodriguez.

Although James plays in a different position to Khedira, his arrival and the desire of president Florentino Perez to start the Colombian alongside Cristiano Ronaldo and Gareth Bale.

It means Ancelotti could be picking two from Khedira, Kroos, Xabi Alonso and Luka Modric to play central midfield in a 4-2-3-1 formation, a departure from the 4-3-3 favoured last season.

Ancelotti remains a huge admirer of Alonso while Modric was one of Madrid’s premier performers last season and Kroos, like James, is a new signing meaning Khedira may well find himself as fourth choice.

Arsene Wenger is a known admirer of the 27-year-old and Podolski also would like to see Khedira join him at the Emirates along with other German international colleagues Per Mertesacker and Mesut Ozil.

When asked by German daily Bild if he’s tried to pursuade Khedira to move to the Arsenal, Podolski said: “I didn’t have to. Sami knows how much fun he could have with me, Mesut and Per at Arsenal.

“We had a great time together at the World Cup and I would like it very much if he comes to London.”
