Fernando Torres is linked with a shock return to Atletico Madrid for £13 million.

The current La Liga champions need to replace their main striker, Diego Costa, who has coincidentally transferred to Chelsea.

Torres was brought through Atletico's academy and was made captain at the tender age of 19. He enjoyed six succesful years at the club before being sold to Liverpool.

Chelsea paid Liverpool £50 million for Torres so they will be making a huge loss if they sell him for this fee but he is deemed surplus to requirements at Stamford Bridge.

Mourinho likes to use a 4-2-3-1 formation and at the moment, Torres is third in the pecking order of forwards behind the returning Romelu Lukaku and the new arrival Costa.

Atletico midfielder Raul Garcia says Torres would be welcomed back with open arms if he returned to the club.

"I speak to him (Torres) a lot and he still feels very strongly about this club," Garcia said.

"His life has been defined by what he experienced here and he is another option just like any other that the media have mentioned. Any great player that can come here will be welcome."
