A stunner against champions Juventus is named 2017/18 Serie A goal of the season

With the 2017/18 Serie A season now over, we take a look at who is our goal of the season.

GOAL OF THE SEASON

SIMY NWANKWO (CROTONE V JUVENTUS)

Not all equalising goals are created equal.

A mismatch for struggling – and eventually relegated – Crotone against champions-elect Juventus appeared to be headed the usual way when left-back Alex Sandro flicked home a superb header from Douglas Costa’s cross.

But the stage was then set for something incredible. In the 65th minute, a loose ball bounced up into the air inside the Juve penalty box. Little seemed on, before 1.98m-tall striker Nwankwo stuck out his supersize right leg and pulled off a perfect bicycle kick.

His effort, parallel to the penalty spot, flew into the bottom corner of the great Gianluigi Buffon’s net. What a way to earn a 1-1 draw.

This was 2017/18’s clear highlight for club and player.

WORTHY MENTIONS

Ciro Immobile (Cagliari v Lazio)

Andrea Belotti (Torino v Sassuolo)

Alberto Brignoli (Benevento v AC Milan)
