Karim Benzema believes Real Madrid are seeing a new player now that he is bearing the responsibility of being the club’s main goalscorer in the wake of Cristiano Ronaldo‘s departure.

The Frenchman has 11 goals across competitions, a tally that puts him atop the club’s scoring charts for the season.

It’s a new role for Benzema, after spending nine seasons serving as a foil for Ronaldo and thus having to curb some of his goalscoring instincts.

“It’s true that there is a new Karim, one who is about football and one who is about goals,” he told MARCA ahead of Saturday’s Club World Cup final against Al Ain.

With 11 goals across all competitions, he is the club’s top scorer so far this season and is proud to be helping the side.

“My commitment to this team is absolute,” he said.

“I feel like the group trusts in me.”
