Real Madrid’s woeful night at the Santiago Bernabeu on Wednesday was not limited to the scoreline alone.

Gareth Bale – who came on as a second half substitute in their 3-0 defeat to CSKA Moscow – picked up an ankle injury.

Head coach Santiago Solari maintained that the injury was not due to lack of adequate rest. The severity of the injury will be evaluated soon.

“It is not a question of rest,” said the Argentine. “It is his ankle.

“We will look at the evaluation and we will chat with him.”

Los Blancos next host Rayo Vallecano on Saturday, before travelling to the UAE for the Club World Cup.
