Raphael Varane’s recovery from the injury he suffered during last month’s Clasico continues apace as he joined his Real Madrid teammates for training on Wednesday.

The Frenchman featured for his country last week in Les Bleus’ defeat to the Netherlands, his first appearance since that October 28 clash against Barcelona.

Varane’s return to fitness will come as welcome news to manager Santiago Solari, with Madrid having to contend with an injury crisis in the young centre-back’s absence. Back-up centre-back Nacho is also out for two months with injury, while Jesus Vallejo has struggled for fitness all season.

Madrid face Eibar on Saturday, and Varane is expected to be back in action for that game.
