Belgium’s head-coach Roberto Martinez believes that commenting on the Real Madrid job is a “waste of time”.

After Antonio Conte’s move was ruled out, all eyes turned towards the former Wigan Athetic and Everton boss to lead Los Blancos after Julen Lopetegui’s sacking.

“Let us not waste our time about that,” Martinez told VTM Nieuws, as reported by AS.

The Spaniard was influential in leading Belgium to the Semi-finals of the World Cup during the summer and is contracted with his national side until 2020. This means that Real Madrid will be forced to negotiate with the Belgian federation before approaching Martinez.

“We don’t comment on contracts that the federation have with their collaborators and what we consider private matters,” said Stefan van Loock, the spokesperson for the football federation when asked about the possibilities of Real Madrid signing the Spaniard from under the federation’s noses. “If a club wanted to contact Mr. Martínez, they would have to reach an agreement with the federation first,” he said.
