Sergio Ramos has been rested for Real Madrid’s Champions League clash away to CSKA Moscow.

Los Blancos boss Julen Lopetegui has cited fears of burnout for the defenders absence.

“Sergio Ramos didn’t come because he’s played more than any other player in the league and he has to keep some energy in reserve for the rest of the season,” Lopetegui explained at a press conference.

“That’s all it is, simply management,” he added. “He’s not here in Moscow because I made the decision.”

Madrid are looking for their fourth Champions League title in a row after starting the current campaign with a 3-0 win over Roma.

Gareth Bale will also be missing for the encounter having suffered a thigh injury during a scoreless draw with Atletico Madrid.

Lopetegui will also be without Isco (appendicitis) and Marcelo (calf).
