Marcelo to miss Madrid derby after suffering injury in Real Madrid’s loss to Sevilla

Real Madrid left-back Marcelo will miss the side’s crucial derby clash against Atletico Madrid on Saturday after suffering a muscle injury during Wednesday’s 3-0 loss to Sevilla.

The Brazilian was substituted during that game, and Goal reports that he will only return after next month’s international break.

He should be fit for the first Clasico of the season, on October 28, but his absence for the Madrid derby, against a resurgent Atletico who are just two points behind joint-La Liga Madrid and Barcelona, will be felt acutely.

Marcelo will miss next week’s Champions League trip to CSKA Moscow on Tuesday, as well as next weekend’s fixture against Deportivo Alaves – who are also currently two points behind the leaders.

The October 20 clash against Levante is likely the earliest Marcelo could return.
